Power Equipment/Small Engine Repair Technology
In the Power Equipment/Small Engine Repair program (PET) at MCTI, you will develop your skills through hands-on activities and experiences. You will learn about the the vital components of small engines and how to effectively make the engine perform to maximum efficiency. You will also learn about brake systems, transmissions, hydraulics, hydrostatics, and drive systems. You will learn skills that involve welding, cutting with a torch, using precision measuring tools, cylinder reconditioning, and troubleshooting performance problems.
Students will be disassembling and reassembling 4-cycle and 2-cycle engines, carburetors, compressors, and pumps in the PET program. Using the skills learned in this program, students will be servicing, diagnosing, and making repairs to a variety of power equipment and small engines. From scheduled maintenance and winterization of lawn mowers to major engine repairs on ATV's and motorcycles. If it is powered by a small engine the students of the PET course will have an opportunity to apply their skills on it.
The PET program receives technical support from major engine manufacturers such as Honda American Motors, Suzuki Marine, and Briggs and Stratton. Student will have the opportunity to gain industry certifications through the Equipment & Engine Training Council (EETC) and certification as a Briggs Stratton Master Service Technician.
