On February 3rd, 2016 the all Freshmen team consisting of Joseph Capasso, Alissa Morales-
Diaz, East Stroudsburg; Quinn Donato, Pocono Mountain; Heidi Baker and Nic VanVliet,
Stroudsburg; took first place at the regional PA Governor’s STEM Competition held at the IU
Center in Nazareth. Their project for harnessing wasted wind energy along highways edged out
teams for Saucon Valley High School, Delaware Valley High School, Liberty High School and
Bethlehem Area Vocational Technical School.

The students came together in October and began working in the project. Although just
meeting in September they came together and worked as one unit. They captured the audience
with their project. The competition consisted of three parts, creating a proposal, developing
and creating the project and then presenting the project. The team continues to work on the
project in preparation for the state competition in May at Thaddeus Stevens Institute of
Technology.
