    • Rainsford and his friend Whitney have an extended conversation on board the yacht as the story gets underway. What do they have in common? What differences in their thinking are revealed in their conversation?

    while you were out, we... continued to learn. continued to have fun. had a party (ok, i'm kidding about the party).   but in all seriousness, we did get a lot done today.  so please read about what you missed, get the material you need from the library page or the assignment page, and get yourself caught up.   as always, if you have any questions, feel free to ask, so long as it doesn't start with "what did i miss?"   may 28, 2015 new project beginning today!!  science idol - we are rewriting the lyrics to popular songs to science them up.  here are the instructions, some examples, and the timeline:   science idol   thursday 5/28 - choose and name your group.  choose and name your tune.   email me this information and get started on the lyrics. friday 5/29 - work on the lyrics weekend - finish the lyrics monday 6/1 - prepare the digital poster tuesday 6/2 - perform/share    may 11, 2015 today some classes wrapped up their upcycling review game projects while others started a new project exploring science in the greater pocono mountains region.  students are challenged with planning a field trip to study science. creativity is encouraged, and sort of required since a distance limit of 50 miles from the school has been imposed. while museums, nature centers, and other traditional sites are all acceptable, sites like grocery stores, hospitals, and local parks are also encouraged.   part 1 of the project is to identify at least ten local sites that could serve as field trip locations.  part 2 will be to plan the trip.  part 3 will be to prepare a slide show photo album of the "trip that was taken".   planning a field trip instructions   sample field trip plan                                     april 13 - april 17 this week we are working on finishing up the scientific investigation. students are analyzing their data, constructing graphs, and writing the lab report. lab report        march

  • This Week In Environmental Biology This Week In Earth Science

      this week in environmental biology     november 7 - november 11:  on monday students will continue working on their nanotechnology cartoon projects by drafting a storyline for their cartoon.  on tuesday east stroudsburg will not be here so students will be working on a long-term vocabulary project.  wednesday we will finish up our introduction to energy notes.  thursday we will take some notes about photosynthesis and friday will be a lab on photosynthesis.   october 31 - november 4:  welcome to another crazy week in the world of ruschman's science class.  happy halloween to all.  today we will be pretending to be mad scientists as we complete a lab that requires students to follow careful instructions.  tuesday will be an introduction to energy in living things, through notes and a lab.  wednesday and thursday i will not be here, so students will be working on a problem based learning project we will be completing over the next few months.  on friday we will complete a gallery walk where students provide feedback on each others work from wednesday and thursday.   october 24 - october 28:  this week we finish homeostasis and transport.  monday will be a review game and tuesday will be the quiz.  wednesday will probably be a remediation day.  thursday and friday we will start talking about energy in cells, organisms, and ecosystems.   october 17 - october 21:  this week we are going to try and finish up transport and homeostasis.  monday we will watch a video about transport in ecosystems.  tuesday we will work grind through an article on transport in human systems.  wednesday will be for finishing up work from monday and tuesday.  thursday is a review game.  friday is a lab.  and the quiz will be next monday, october 24.  at least, that is the plan.   october 10 - october 14:  ugh what a rough couple of weeks it has been.  i'm trying and pretty much have everyone back on track.  of course, we had in-service yesterday and east stroudsbur
