    preface the carl d. perkins career and technical education improvement act of 2006 requires the development and implementation of “career and technical programs of study.” these programs of study are defined and referenced throughout the act.   states must develop the programs of study in consultation with local programs, and each local recipient receiving funds under the bill will be required to offer the relevant course of at least one. programs of study are very similar to, and build on, positive initiatives already underway in cte programs around the country, such as tech prep, careerpathways, career academies, and career clusters. in many states, the foundational elements of programs of study may already be in place. monroe career & technical institute (mcti) currently offers 21 approved pennsylvania department of education (pde) “programs of study.” in addition, mcti offers  three approved pde “tech prep programs.”   programs of study “programs of study” is an approved pennsylvania department of education statewide program that: · incorporates and aligns secondary and postsecondary education · includes academic and cte content in a coordinated, non-duplicative progression of  courses · includes the opportunity for secondary students to acquire postsecondary credits · leads to an industry-recognized credential or certificate at the postsecondary level, or an associate of baccalaureate degree · identifies and addresses current or emerging occupational opportunities · builds on career clusters, career pathways, and career academies · develops in consultation with local occupational advisory committees (oac)  and standards   tech prep     tech prep programs combine at least two years of high school education with two years of postsecondary education to prepare students for tech

    plumbing   46.0503   plumbing technology/plumber (pde approved program of study)   plumbing technology is an instructional program that prepares individuals to practice as licensed plumbers by applying technical knowledge, safety and skills to lay out, assemble, install and maintain plumbing fixtures and systems for steam, natural gas, oil, hot water, heating, cooling, drainage, lubricating, sprinkling and industrial processing systems in home and business environments.   the program includes instruction in source determination, water distribution, waste removal, pressure adjustment, basic physics, technical mathematics, blueprint reading, pipe installation, pumps, brazing and soldering, plumbing inspection and applicable codes and standards.   the program combines classroom and practical learning experiences.   students also become involved with many community service projects related to their program of study.   this program is certified by the national center for construction education and research.  the program consists of a list of pde required tasks and additional local or value added tasks.     specialized equipment: related occupations /employment opportunities: personal qualifications: electric pipe threader acetylene and propane    gas torches burner test bench bacharach tester gas welders pipefitter and    steamfitter plumbers plumber heating and air    conditioning    mechanics first line supervisor    managers and mechanics, installers    and repairers mechanical aptitude ability to work    independently and in     a team problem solving    troubleshooting skills communication skills     careers:

      resources the following resources are intended to help students complete assignments.  some are resources that provide information.  others are meant to inspire and encourage students to apply science through inquiry and service.  finally, some are examples of how science is being conducted here in monroe county.   science for citizens is a website dedicated to scientific research that people can assist with, often in their own backyard.  projects range from astronomy to birds and insects to physics.     the national service learning clearinghouse promotes service learning throughout the country, providing support and ideas for various service learning programs.       a link to our earth science textbook.  the site includes power point presentations, online quizzes, and other resources.               quizlet is a series of flashcards and games that can be used to help review science content. when you are finished with regular breaks process of science #1 process of science #2 atom #1
