outdoor power equipment technology in the outdoor power equipment technology program (ope) at mcti, y ou will develop your skills through hands-on activities and experiences. you will discover a new technical vocabulary and develop an in depth and comprehensive knowledge of engine operating theory, systems, procedures, and components, you will learn about specialized troubleshooting techniques and testing methods and how to effectively make the engine perform to maximum efficiency. you will also learn about brake systems, transmissions, hydraulics, hydrostatics, and drive systems. you will learn skills that involve welding, cutting with a torch, using precision measuring tools, and cylinder reconditioning. the ope (outdoor power equipment) industry is far reaching and diverse. this isn't simply a lawn mower repair class. ope is found everywhere and anywhere. ope supports all types of construction operations, from home repair businesses to the construction of the world's tallest buildings. wherever you are right now the building, road, lawn, landscape, or any man made feature near you was created with the support of outdoor power equipment. generators, chain saws, paving equipment, compaction equipment, pumps, cultivators, wood chippers, log splitters, lawn mowers, weed trimmers, leaf blowers, and skid steer tractors, mini excavators, extendable light plants, and scissor lifts are just a sample of the types of equipment powered by small engines. enterprising students who have attended the course have found success in many related areas as well. the ope program has produced the recipients of the outstanding senior award in both the diesel technology and automotive technology course at mcti after attending the ope program. students have gone on to post-secondary training at automotive training center, motorcycle mechanics institute, universal technical institute, and northampton community college in related programs such as auto te

the english courses at monroe career and technical institute supports a curriculum that not only reflects the various needs of students from six sending schools ( four school districts), but also meets the academic standards for the pennsylvania english language arts curriculum. the demands of 21st century literacy are more complex and challenging than ever before. the curriculum of the english courses increasingly reflects the greater use of technology while continuing to prepare students to be successful, productive citizens with highly developed skills in written and oral communication, collaboration, work ethic, critical thinking, and leadership. the theme in english will be based in the human experience for the year. by using a variety of literature, students will investigate a range of experiences that make up the whole person. some of the experiences we will read and discuss in class are compassion, how to manage anger, repercussions of choices, helping community, and living in, as well as being secluded from, society. all of these topics are designed to create a student who thinks about his or her choices for a minute, an hour, a year, and a lifetime.
